“How to succeed in life” is a complex question, full of nuances and assumptions.  But who has time for nuances?  Here, instead, is the cliff notes version:

  1. Success is about what you do.  Every action you take, every day, causes other things.
  2. There is no Prince coming to save you.  He is busy slaying dragons.
  3. No one does anything they believe is the wrong thing.  Admitting you’re wrong is hard.
  4. Judge others on their values, not on your own.  The only real sin is a lack of integrity.  This is why we pardon murderers who are criminally insane: they have more integrity than the average citizen.
  5. The knowing/doing gap is the biggest epidemic in American society today.  We know more than ever, but we do less than ever.  Your success will depend on your ability to reverse this.
  6. You are what you consume and produce.  Consume garbage, you will become garbage.
  7. Success is not simply about who you know or what you know.  These matter. but…
  8. Success is about what you do.  Every action you take, every day, causes other things.
